Jenny Swick began her teaching career, teaching English to college students in Bangkok, Thailand.  She later returned to Thailand to work in a village community with new mothers to improve maternal and child health outcomes as well as combat a cyclical virus outbreak.  She returned to the United States and began working as an in-school-suspension teacher implementing restorative discipline strategies and coaching varsity volleyball and basketball in Leadville, Colorado.

She returned to Texas where she became credentialed to work with students in grades 4-8 and designed and taught a character-building curriculum for junior high students. Mrs. Swick found her passion in working with Emergent Bilingual students and their families in Midland, Texas, where she was able to consistently improve TELPAS scores for over 75% of newcomers for the span of her time there. She was a Teacher of the Year in Midland and invited to speak at the TEA Title III Symposium on addressing culture shock in the classroom. She transitioned to school leadership in Fort Bend ISD where she worked at a large urban high school for 3 years.  This will be her 6th year in Dallas ISD, 4th year as a school leader and 16th year in public education.  Mrs. Swick believes that through the process of going to the people, learning from the people and serving the people, we can influence the outcomes for our students, communities, and eventually our society.  It is her goal to create a welcoming environment where students and teachers can thrive.
